Executive Summary

Business Qualifications

Mr. R. Stephen Shea has over 40 years of professional experience in the areas of finance and investment management.  His equity experience using both fundamental and technical analysis has enabled him to formulate an investment methodology that not only appeals to conservative investors, but also has proven to produce superior results.
Mr. Shea was born July 8, 1937.  After serving in the United States Air Force, he began his career in 1960 as a representative with Spear & Staff working closely with Roger E. Spear, a widely respected syndicated columnist and financial analyst.  Under Mr. Spear’s tutelage, Mr. Shea learned the fundamentals of investing and here began his editorial career.
During the years of 1966 through 1974, Mr. Shea spent time with W.E. Hutton & Co. and Wood Walker & Co., both out of Boston, Massachusetts.  His knowledge and skills as an investment analyst earned him the title of Vice President.

In the fall of ’74, Mr. Shea left Wood Walker & Co. to become Vice President of Thrift Services with Advest & Co.  During this time, Mr. Shea worked closely with the Commissioner of Banks to establish a high quality list of “Legal Investments” for Savings Banks in Massachusetts.
In 1988, Mr. Shea moved to Gruntal & Co. where he remained until 1991 to serve as Vice President to the Investments Division.  In the spring of ’91, Mr. Shea made one final move to begin American Portfolio Services.  Here he concentrated his efforts in serving the investment needs of his clients.
Over the years, Mr. Shea has served as a financial writer and registered representative.  His experience has led him to become the editor of several publications.  Such publications include:

  • The “Group Trend Market Letter” for Spear & Staff, as well as the “Com-Stat Letter.”  Mr. Shea also served as the Assistant Editor of S&S “Special Situation Report.”
  • Published for Advest, the “Legal List for Savings Banks.”

Mr. Shea has also served from 1969 to 1984 as Governor of the Boston Financial Research Association, Inc., an association of prominent analysts and brokers dedicated to promoting a high standard of professional financial analysis for the benefit of clients.
Finally, Mr. Shea was one of the first, in the 1960's, to develop an Intra-Day computerized trading technique using a DEC-8 computer.  His successful trading technique, along with those techniques of other prominent and successful analysts of that time, led to the NYSE initiating a 15-minute delay in trading for non-member firms.  The NYSE felt that the success of these non-member firms in analyzing trends in the market and then buying or selling based on these intra-day trends would upset the markets.

Account Responsibility
Mr. Shea is directly responsible for the leadership and direction of the Company, as well as, ensuring the investment activities are being performed to the expectations of the clients.
Each account will be reviewed at least quarterly by Mr. Shea to determine if the client’s needs and objectives are being met.  General guidelines as defined by the client and cash needs will be adjusted as necessary.  Any specific goals and objectives, as designed by the client through one-on-one consultations, will be established for portfolio positioning and diversification, and monitored periodically for revision as needs dictate.  Significant changes in the client’s personal circumstances, the general economy, or tax law changes can trigger more frequent reviews.
Investment results are provided to clients on at least a quarterly basis.  Each statement will summarize the specific investments currently held and the value of the client’s portfolio.  The client will also receive monthly reports from the brokerage firm where the accounts are held.
